We did it! Six weeks of StringTime are officially over. With over 200 signups across 6 weeks, we far exceeded our enrollment goal and more than doubled last year’s numbers.

Together, we studied 24 composers, hosted 6 concerts, added a 3rd camp location, and hosted 2 special guests — Dr. Tom MacCracken (Former Research Fellow for the Smithsonian
and Music History Professor at UVA) who brought his collection of renaissance/baroque era recorders & viola da gambas, and John Nothaft (Organist and Music Director at Lewinsville Presbyterian) who told us about Trinity United Methodist Church’s 1850 organ.Â

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we were able to offer 35 need-based scholarships.
At the violin, viola, and cello camps, our students enjoyed playing 50 world premieres by our Composer in Residence, Daniel DiMarino (a composer for the Duolingo music learning app). Students also enjoyed a brand new theory curriculum developed by StringTime Founder/Director Lourdes de la Peña.

At the guitar camp, our campers learned how to hold the instrument, basic chords, strumming patterns, and how to play together in a group. They explored the different styles of guitar playing from classical, to gospel, to jazz, to rock and roll.

To the parents who trusted us with their children, facilities who let us use their spaces, teachers who came early and stayed late, volunteers who poured countless hours into the program, thank you for helping us spark children’s lifelong enjoyment of music through creative, playful, and educational string instrument camps.
We can’t wait to do it all over again next summer!
